Create Learning Content with Variables
The dominKnow I ONE authoring platform provides the tools to rapidly create engaging digital learning content. Using Variables in learning content will enrich the interactive learning experience for your target audience, and take your authoring skills to the next level.
There are countless ways in which authors can use Variables, from the basic System Variables to complex, customised Variables, with conditions, that will add a level of programming-like control to your authoring skills.
Course Overview
The dominKnow I ONE Variables Workshop is delivered as interactive small group sessions with a combination of pre-built scenario based examples and live demonstrations. Consolidation tasks will be set after each session and reviewed as a group in the following session for feedback and further context. An online Knowledge Base, which contains examples and step by step simulations, will be provided to support the workshops. Delegates will have continued access to the Knowledge Base for the duration of their dominKnow | ONE subscription.
The following scenarios will be covered in the Variables Workshop:
- How to use the new Variables Manager (a new feature in dominKnow | ONE)
- Displaying Variables in a text element
- Using a Variable to show an element
- Variables to aid Accessibility
- Applying Variables to an element e.g. sliders / checkboxes
- Showing learner entered text
- Using test scores as triggers
- Setting up Variable conditions
- Multiple Variables working together
To gain the maximum benefit from the Workshop, delegates should consider scenarios where they think using Variables in Learning Content could be a solution. Our instructor can incorporate your scenarios to help you reach your end goal, with a working model as the destination.
The Workshop consists of four one-hour sessions, delivered virtually via MS Teams:
- Session 1: Introduction to Variables
- Session 2: System Variables
- Session 3: Custom Variables
- Session 4: Q&A and/or discuss delegate project/scenario

This was an excellent workshop!
Having the learning broken down into one-hour sessions during the week was perfect: I was able to go through the course the first evening after receiving a walk-through of the highlights on that first day. Providing an initial introduction, the terminology, some of the navigation and basic concepts totally made sense and was a great way to start consuming all the content.
The rest of the sessions offered us a project to work on, which was so critical to my learning and understanding – it really helped to apply the concepts and steps.
Our instructor was terrific and I couldn’t have asked for more with this class! The recordings were indispensable to refer to, and instructor’s flexible but thorough teaching style was perfect. I also enjoyed “learning out loud” together during class (being presented with a problem of how-to and then we figured it out together) – I really like that way of learning. It was a nice balance to working on my own after class.
